Hwaeom Valley Course is a section of the mountain trail that starts from Hwaeom Valley, where the largest temple in the mountain is located. This trail section starts from Hwaeomsa Temple and passes through Yeongiam, Jungjae, and Munenggi before reaching the Nogodan Shelter. The distance is 7km, or a 4-hour hike.

The trail section starts from Hwaeomsa Temple, but the real hike begins from Banyagyo Bridge. The 2km section between Hwaeomsa Temple and the waterfall pond is where you'll have the leisure to examine the nature of Hwaeom Valley. There is a lush grove of camellia, painted maple, and Amur maple trees. If you want a narrative description of the nature of this area, you can make an online reservation or request for one at the site. Cross the Eojingyo Bridge and Eoeungyo Bridge while taking in the scenery, and you’ll see the path to Yeongiam Hermitage.

The slope gradually becomes steeper from the forked road at Yeongiam Hermitage. The path winds through a pristine forest, it’s a great place to take in the smell of the nature. After about a half-hour walk on the path, you’ll reach the Guksudeung Stairway. It’s very steep. About 20 to 30 minutes after the stairway, you’ll reach Jipseondae.

The section between Jipseondae and Munenggi is quite steep. The ground rises even more steeply after about 20 minutes on Neodeolgil from Jipseondae. It’s called Kojae, or Nose Pass, because the ground is so steep that your nose can touch the ground. The winding trail will leave most of hikers breathless, but there is a large rock called Nunsseopbawi with an open view of the area for you to take a short break.

After you catch a breath on the rock, continue on the steep trail for about 20 minutes before reaching the top of the mountain ridge called Munenggijae Gogaetmaru. It's the main ridge of Jirisan Mountain. From this point on, the path widens and the ground is flat and easy to walk all the way to Nogodan Shelter.
