Banggwang Village → Standing Stone Buddha in Daejeon-ri → Dangdong Village → Nandong Village → Gurijae Pass → Gurye Arboretum → Tapdong Village → Sandong-myeon Office
This section of Jirisan Dulle-gil stretches 11.4km between Banggwang Village, Banggwang-ri, Gwangui-myeon and Tapdong Village, Tapjeong-ri, Sandong-myeon in Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do. The Banggwang-Tapdong Section is right next to the Jirisan National Park, and it can be traveled on mountain paths and old roads between villages.
As in other sections of Jirisan Dulle-gil, Banggwang-Tapdong has much to see. At the start of the circular path around Banggwang Village is Cheoneunsa Temple, which is one of the three most famous temples along with Hwaeomsa Temple and Ssanggyesa Temple. It would be a good idea to look around the temple if you have the time.
After Nandong Village, there is Artist Village in Dang-dong. The village has lots of modern buildings instead of traditional ones. The buildings are pretty, so it's a good place to take photos. And just past Artist Village, you’ll see the Namaksa Temple Site and the Standing Stone Buddha in Daejeon-ri In addition to these, there will be yet more to see around Jichobong Peak, since they’re building the Gurye Arboretum and Korea’s largest eco forest there. Go up to Gurijae next to Jichobong Peak, and you'll have a panoramic view of Gurye Valley. This is the valley where a government official dispatched by Emperor Qin Shi Huang of China is said to have found the ‘elixir of life’.
With all this combined, this section offers an ideal combination of past and present, and the harmony of nature and culture.
