Hyanggyo, or Confucian school in Korean, is what most regional academies were called during the Joseon Dynasty. The school grounds of Danseonghyanggyo still have its original lecture hall called Myeongnyundang, and Daeseongjeon Shrine intact. The buildings are of the architectural style of the late Joseon Period.

During the time, one instructor was assigned to teach a total of 30 students, but it no longer functions as an educational institute today. Danseonghyanggyo is quite different from other Confucian academies in Gyeongsangnam-do in architectural layout, adding more to its historical importance.
