Cheonghakdong is a picturesque village situated in the middle of Jirisan Mountain about 800m above sea level, on the south side of Samsinbong Peak. The village is known to many as the place where a famous historical figure of Silla named Choe Chi-won lived a life of seclusion.

Cheonghakdong is equivalent or similar to the 'Peach Blossom Valley', the Chinese version of Utopia. In other words, it’s the place where those dreaming of a utopia chose to live. Even today, ascetics who try to live according to the Way of Heaven live there. The ascetics are also widely known for still wearing traditional Joseon-style clothes.
