Pallangchi, located on the southern side of Baraebong Peak which is on the western side of Jirisan Mountain, is a hilly path that connects Sandeok-ri in Unbong-eup to Pallang Village in Sannae-myeon, Namwon.

During the Samhan Period, the king of Mahan was pushed out by Jinhan. He withdrew into the deep forest of Jirisan Mountain, and while there built a palace and on every easily access path, he posted defenses against the enemy. The northern ridge where eight generals were posted came to be called Pallangchi (meaning 'a pass of eight), while the western ridge associated with General Jeong was known as Jeongnyeongchi (meaning 'a pass of Jeong). The eastern ridge manned by General Hwang became known as Hwangnyeong and the southern ridge where three other generals were posted came to be called Seongsamjae.

Baraebong Peak is famous for royal azaleas. Throughout the mountain, royal azaleas blossom in groves and people say that the most breathtaking of all these is located in the 1.5 km section between the top and Pallangchi. Every spring, the summit transforms into a garden. Pallang Village located in Sannae-myeon, Namwon, which is south of Pallangchi, got its name from Pallangjae. The residents of Pallang Village sell painted maple sap, wild greens such as bracken, aster, and gooseberry leaves as well as omija, pine mushrooms, dried persimmons, local honey, and shiitake mushrooms to make an income.
